St. Mark's, Gulfport, Miss Hurricane Relief

St. Marks, Gulfport was totally destroyed by hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Since then, St. Johns Members have been very generous in their financial aid and prayers for them.

St. Marks has purchased a piece of property further inland and will rebuild there.
(They are currently meeting in a store front.....)  They will eventually use the old property for a homeless shelter and other ministries served by the church.
In August of 2007, the women of St. Johns sent the funds from a Sunday Bake Sale to the women of St. Marks for their Ministries......With added funds collected from a church wide donation we sent a sum of about 1500.00....This marked the second anniversary of the Storm.....Please continue to support St. Marks in your Prayers and any way that you are able.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
Wrap yourself in St. John’s new, rapidly growing ministry.
Monday, September 15, 2008
10:00 a.m.
Al Durrance Room

Last year 58 shawls were given to the sick and shut-ins at St John's, taken to the hospital and distributed to patients, and given to friends that are sick or disabled showing that they are thought of and cared for with love and warmth. Join us the third Monday of every month at 10:00 AM in the Al Durrance room. We welcome all who like to knit or crochet or who would like to learn!
Please join us every 3rd Monday at 10:00 a.m. to participate in this amazing outreach of love and compassion. Any extra yarn you can donate is always appreciated and may be left in the church office. You may contact Billie Craft, 392-3928, or Harriet Schroeder, 632-9417 to learn more.

"Prayer Shawl Ministry” provides shawls to the sick, shut-ins, nursing home patients, etc. The garments are lovingly hand-made, prayed over, and blessed prior to being given out. Experienced knitters are especially needed, but anyone who wants to participate is welcome, and lessons will be available.

Church Periodical Club

SPEAKING VOLUMES

The Church Periodical Club provides grants to individuals, congregations, and other groups in this Church to assist them in purchasing written and musical resources they could not otherwise afford. CPC serves new congregations, seminarians in other parts of the Anglican Communion, and ministries in this Church which use English, Spanish, French and other languages.

Our Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori, Presiding Bishop and Primate, encourages us to take an offering on that day to assist this ministry which brings the word to many who could not afford to see it in writing.  She asks us to "please be generous."

Fall’s Coming – and so are Supper Groups!

Family Night
Wednesdays 6:15 – 8:00

.

After the 6:15 potluck dinner, you're invited to an informal Eucharist at 7:00 p.m. in Elebash Hall.  After singing and the gospel reading for the coming Sunday is a time of reflection and sharing on what the reading says and means and on what invitation we hear from God through it.  After informal prayers and a friendly sharing of the Peace, we gather around the Lord’s Table for Communion.  Nursery and supervised play for children through 5th grade are provided.

Family night follows immediately after the children’s choir practice.

Greening of our Church

We strart with a chili dinner and fellowship, then hang greens at the base of the church’s stained glass windows, adorn garlands around the church doors and  rafters, and finally attach  festive red bows to the draped garlands and greens.

We’d love for you to join us..
