Bargain Box of Wilmington is a not- for- profit thrift store that is part of the outreach ministry of Episcopal Church of the Servant. It accepts slightly used clothes and household good which are sold in an attractive boutique setting.
Wilmington Interfaith Hospitality Network
Our Mission
Provide Cape Fear's homeless families with emergency and transitional services that assist them in regaining their independence. The Wilmington Interfaith Hospitality Network (WIHN) unites communities of faith in a collaborative effort to assist homeless families. On a rotating basis, 13 host congregations provide accommodations and meals for up to four families for one week, four times a year. An additional 25 congregations support the hosts, providing material, human, and financial resources to support the program. Volunteers from the congregations provide meals and support services.A central Day Center is located at 411 N. 4th St., where staff work intensively with the families as they seek jobs, housing, health care, and other resources necessary for independent living.Please join us on November 20th at the Landfall Country Club as we celebrate the holiday season. Celia Rivenbark, local journalist and author, will return as our keynote speaker. There will be other special guests, as well as silent and live auctions that will help you get a head start on your holiday shopping.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.

Good Shepherd Center
Good Shepherd Ministries thanks St. John’s for its continued support – financially and through the efforts of St. John’s Outreach Commission and volunteers, including our youth. Over 100 men, women, and children stay nightly in the overnight shelter. To reflect its broad missions, the name has been changed to Good Shepherd Center. Its work will remain the same – feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and fostering transition to independence for those in crisis.
Helping the Homeless and Near Homeless: Each weekday at lunch, Good Shepherd prepares a large salad for about 200 guests. During the last few months, salad dressing has been scarce or non-existent. If you would like to fill a real need at the kitchen, donate a bottle or two of salad dressing. Any flavor can be used except blue cheese. These donations can be put in the closet at the rear entrance. Inside the closet is a basket marked Good Shepherd.
Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard
Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard is a life-saving ministry that provides canned and dry foods to those in need. We need YOU to assist at the quarterly food drives on various Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Food Lion at Market and Kerr. Please call John Hoyt (256-5552) if you can donate an hour or two of free time.
Unseen Guest
Unseen Guest provides homemade frozen dinners for individuals who are unable to prepare nutritious meals for themselves. The 320 meals that are mad monthly by volunteers are for distribution to recipients. Donations of brown paper bags with handles would be very much appreciated. United Thank Offering
What we do in the United Thank Offering is first to offer our prayers of thanks to God. This is the major difference between us and other groups. The United Thank Offering is prayer oriented. Then we give tangible thanks for the blessing in the form of coins or bills. This money is an offering, not a donation.
This is the word we always use - an offering. An offering is not the same as a donation or a contribution. An offering is a thanksgiving to God - always. Thanks be to God.

Prison Ministries

East Carolina Prison Ministry Committee
East Carolina Prison Ministry Committee members represent a variety of programs that serve inmates while serving time in prison that assist their families, and transitional programs that assist ex-offenders after release from prison. St. John's members Joan and Alex McIlwraith represent Kairos on the Committee.
Kairos/Kairos Outside
Kairos is a three-day interdenominational Christian weekend offered by volunteers inside prisons with follow-up group reunions and meetings. This program is based on the Cursillo Movement, and tailored to prison ministry. Kairos Outside is for families of inmates and former inmates.

Church Periodical Club Collection
All throughout our country, churches give generously to the Church Periodical Club, so that other less fortunate seminarians, churches and individuals may have periodicals, books, Bibles, and other literature.
Begun in 1888 by Mary Ann Fargo, wife of Mortimer Fargo, Mrs. Fargo and other churchwomen sent Bibles out west on Wells Fargo stagecoaches.CPC is supported solely through voluntary donations and the primary source of funds is collected in church pews on CPC Sunday. Please help through this unique vehicle which helps so many of the less fortunate in our Anglican Communion. You may give cash or checks in the special collection today. Make checks payable to ECW, Diocese of East Carolina, and designate CPC Special Fund in the memo portion of the check.
